Stonecroft Syrah 2008
Sam Kim
February 2010
Stonecroft Syrah 2008 Hawke's Bay 94-96 5 Stars
A beautifully elegant and youthful nose displaying red plum, spice, game and a touch of pepper characters on the nose. Considering the wine's youth, the bouquet is remarkably complex. It's concentrated on the palate showing fine texture, bright acidity and gently drying chalky tannins. The wine is perfectly ripe, but not over-ripe, and beautifully weighted, yet not heavy. As the wine sat in the glass, it continued to evolve exhibiting extra flavours (dried herb, cedar) and a richer, smoother mouthfeel. A superbly structured wine destined to age magnificently. At its best: 2014 to 2022. $45.00 Diam cork.
